Top 5 Travel Destinations in Canada
Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about travelling closer to home. There isn’t room in my budget right now to go overseas but that reality has got me looking at my own country in a new light. The truth is that Canada is an amazing place to travel. Whether you’re a Canadian yourself or a visitor looking to explore someplace new, here are my top five travel destinations in Canada.
Banff & Lake Louise
Banff and Lake Louise are the perfect places to visit to experience some of Canada’s mountains and natural scenery at its best. Banff and Lake Louise are known around the world for its breathtaking views and untouched beauty. Whether you’re into hiking in the summer or skiing in the winter Banff and Lake Louise is the ideal destination for the nature-loving traveller.
I’m listing an entire province here because it’s relatively small and you can see quite a bit of it in one road tip. Exploring Nova Scotia is a great way to get a full maritime experience. Land it Halifax to experience maritime city-life then hit the road to explore nature in Canada’s Ocean Playground, as it’s called. Go whale-watching on the Bay of Fundy, drive the world-famous Cabot Train in Cape Breton, and check out Five Things To Do In Halifax for your sojourn in the province’s capital.
Canada’s biggest city is the place to go if you’re an urban traveller. If you like cosmopolitan cities with good food, killer shopping, active nightlife, and plenty of arts & culture, then Toronto is the perfect destination for you. Check out my recent post: Five Non-Touristy Things To Do In Toronto for all my local tips.
Quebec City is the perfect place to visit if you’re a history buff. Here you’ll find some of Canada’s oldest landmarks and historic sites from French Colonial days. If you like wandering cobble-stone streets and are looking for a little slice of Europe this side of the Atlantic, then book your flight to Quebec.
I may be biased here, but there’s a reason why thousands of tourists flock to my hometown every year. Niagara offers something for everyone. You can tour wineries in Vineland, see world-class theatre in Niagara-on-the-Lake, visit historic sites from the war of 1812 in Queenston, and of course, see the world-famous Niagara Falls. Niagara is a particularly great destination if you’re looking for a short trip you can do and see everything in a relaxing long weekend.
If you’ve never been to Canada, I hope this post has inspired you to come check out our beautiful country. If, like me, you call this place home, why not explore some of the incredible destinations we have right in our own backyard?
