Summer Haircare Tips
The summer heat is notorious for wreaking havoc on your hair. The hot weather and extra sunshine can do lots of damage that many people don't even think about! I'm always a little relieved when the cooler weather sets in and my hair naturally starts to regain some health and shine. That being said, there are a few things you can do to help you hair stay as healthy as possible through the summer months. Follow these summer haircare tips to keep your locks looking fresh all year round.
Deep Condition Once A Week
Heat and sun can cause your hair to dry out and damage more easily. If you've been noticing more breakage or split ends than usual, a lack of nourishing moisture may be the cause. Deep condition your hair with a mask once a week to restore its strength and shine. (I actually deep condition once a week all year round because I have very dry hair, but it's particularly important in the summer.)
Lay Off The Heat Styling
We all know too much heat styling causes hair damage so it's extra important to put down the flatirons in the summer. Instead of heat styling, use a sea salt spray and let your hair dry naturally to achieve those beachy waves every girl covets.
Use The Right Shampoo
Shampoo is not a one-size-fits all product. Different formulations are specifically designed for different hair types and hair concerns. For example, I have blonde highlights throughout my hair so it's important for me to use a purple shampoo to keep my colour looking fresh. This is particularly crucial in the summer when sun and chlorine damage can easily ruin my carefully chosen colour. Ask you stylist what shampoo will keep your hair in optimal health through the hot weather.
