Shoes For Your Summer Capsule Wardrobe

Every season I take more and more steps in the direction of an increasingly minimalist capsule wardrobe. I recently did a big shoe clear-out and replaced my worn-out pairs with a couple carefully chosen new ones. My goal, however, was the end my purge with fewer shoes than I started with in order to live more simply. With that in mind, I put together this list of six summer shoes for a capsule wardrobe. You may find that you don't even need six pairs of summer shoes, particularly if you live somewhere were the summers are short. That being said, with six choices on this list, I think there is something to fit everyone's minimal summer closet.
Gladiator sandals have been on trend for years now and don't seem to be going out of style any time soon. They are a great option for an everyday sandal and a bit of embellishment can help you dress up your outfit from day to night when you're on the go.
For those formal summer weddings and garden parties, I love these Steve Madden heeled sandals. They'll match just about any outfit, and a thick heel will keep you from sinking into the grass at an outdoor reception.
I like to keep a pair of slip-ons available in the summer for when I'm running back and forth between indoors and out. Slip-ons are also essential for those days on the beach or by the pool.
A pair of wedge sandals are one of my favourite things to have on hand because I do so much walking in the summertime and I can't always go everywhere in flats. Wedge sandals are also great if you think you might face unexpected terrain at a picnic or walk in the park.
I live in Keds on casual days almost all year round but a good pair of cute sneakers is a must-have for me in the summer when I never know if I'm going to be hopping on a bike or jumping into a badminton match.
Finally I like to have a pair of black flats on hand at all times. Summer evenings in Canada can get a bit chilly so it's nice to have the option of a close-toed shoe. It also tends to rain quite a bit so a nice pair of leather flats keep my feet relatively dry without having to pull out my hot and heavy rainboots.
