Little Black Dress: Three Ways
This post is sponsored by Tobi. All opinions are my own.
It's time I confess my fashion addiction: I am completely obsessed with the Little Black Dress. I have a closet full of them and I never run out of places to wear them. Whether its dressed up or dressed down, the Little Black Dress instantly gives you a classic, versatile, and stylish look that can be customized to your heart's content with your choice of accessories. This week, I've teamed up with online retailer Tobi to showcase three of my favourite LBDs from their current collection.
I'm totally feeling the 90s revival trend in this dress. The shift cut with mesh overlay is playful and a little sexy without being too revealing. To play up the 90s vibe I got from this one, I styled it with a simple black choker and a classic end-of-the-20th-century matte lip in nude. A half-up hairstyle with a few loose pieces that can fall around the face also feels very 90s to me. To add a little more visual interest to this neutral styling, I finished it off with a handful of my favourite mix-and-match rings.
Now that I work for myself, I can't say I have a lot of days at the office (unless you count my living room as an office). That being said, I like to have an easy professional-business-woman outfit on standby that I can throw together for a last minute meeting with a client. This overlay shift dress is perfect for those work occasions because it's comfortable, easy to throw on, and has just the right amount of unique visual interest. I tend to gravitate toward a modest neckline for business meetings, but I love how this dress has just a hint of youthful playfulness with an a-symmetrical hemline. I kept the styling of this one very simple and classic with a slightly more traditional office atmosphere in mind. Minimal silver bangles are one of my favourite timeless accessories, a pink lipstick feels professional but still youthful, and a simple pair of black suede flats finishes the look.
For my last look, I wanted to dress things up a little. I'll be attending a wedding in a couple weeks so I styled this look with that in mind. This dress was the first to catch my eye, probably because I'm in love with the current scalloped hemline trend. To play up that girly feeling, I chose a statement necklace that mirrors the rounded edges of the hemline. I also added a vintage heirloom ring I inherited from my grandmother. Weddings are the perfect time to break out your special occasion jewlery and show of the pieces that are a little too fancy for every day. For contrast, I went with my sexiest pair of platform patent leather pumps. There's something about the contrast between sweet and sexy that seemed perfect for this look. Finally, it wouldn't be a formal event without my signature red lipstick.
I'm convinced that the versatility and classic style of a little black dress will never let me down. I think this is one addiction that I'll be holding on to for a long time to come!
