Gift Guide For The Minimalist

Gift Guide For The Minimalist

It can be difficult to think of gift ideas if you have someone in your life who is striving to live a minimal lifestyle. I myself am on a mission to own as little as possible, which causes my loved ones some frustration as they struggle to think of Christmas gift ideas for me. That being said, there are tons of great gift ideas that don't add any clutter to your home or promote too much unnecessary consumerism. Here are my top gift ideas for the minimalist.

Food & Drink Subscriptions

Food and drink subscriptions are a great clutter-free gift that you know is guaranteed to be completely used up. There are SO many monthly subscription services out there these days so you're guaranteed to find one that suits your minimalist. Some ideas of monthly food and drink subscriptions include wine, whiskey, cheese, chocolate, and even charcuterie! I don't know about you, but I wouldn't say no to a delivery of wine and cheese showing up on my doorstep every month.

Terrariums or Herb Gardens

Plants are a great idea for a physical gift because they add ambience to a home without bringing in clutter. There are so many health and psychological benefits to having a houseplant that even a minimalist can't deny. Terrariums are great because they don't require a lot of care and indoor herb gardens are perfect for the home cook.

Texture Subscription

I love my monthly Vanity Fair delivery, but all those magazines can start to clutter up my bookshelves. While I do recycle my magazines when I'm done with them, I still feel guilty about all that wasted paper. Texture is a great alternative because they offer digital access to hundreds of magazines with just one subscription. Reading magazines on an iPad is a great way to cut down on your paper consumption.

Events & Experiences

Concert tickets, theatre tickets, or a voucher for a fancy restaurant are all great gift ideas that are about sharing wonderful experiences instead of collecting things. Last year, I was gifted a membership to our city's main art gallery so I could see all the exhibits free for a whole year! Maybe your loved one has always wanted to take a photography class or try hang-gliding. No matter what they love, you can find a way to gift them that special experience.

Spa Gift Certificates

This sort of falls under a similar category as "events and experiences" but Spas offer so many different services that I felt they deserved their own category. I can't think of anyone who wouldn't love a little pampering whether it's a gift certificate for a massage, a manicure, or a facial.

Charitable Donations

If none of these ideas appeal to you, you really can't go wrong with making a charitable donation in the name of your loved one. Christmas is all about generosity and helping those less fortunate after all. Donate to a cause that your loved one is uniquely passionate about so the gift still feels personalized for them. I usually make a donation on behalf of my family every year and one thing I recommend is to do a little research ahead of time to make sure your money is being used ethically and responsibly.

So there we have it, tons of gift ideas for the minimalist in your life. Do you have other suggestions for those of us who are trying to declutter? Leave them in the comments!
