Fall Fashion Trends

We're in the middle of an insanely unseasonal heat wave in Toronto right now and it's making me even more eager for cool fall weather and the fashion that comes with it. Luckily, temperatures are supposed to return their normal autumn zone in a couple days. In anticipation of long overdue falling leaves and pumpkin spice, here are the fall fashion trends to look out for this season.
Growing up in a small town means that I associate fall with plaid flannels, cowboy boots, and trips to the pumpkin farm. Luckily for me, modern twists on classic country-western fashions are right on trend this season. Embrace the high fashion version of cowboy boots, chambray button downs, and leather vests to rock this trend.
Florals aren't just for spring anymore. Top labels like Vivenne Westwood and Balenciaga are now getting inspired by nature all year long. Instead of the dainty floral patterns of spring, you'll find the racks full of bold flowers reminiscent of vintage window dressings.
Midi skirts are the perfect practical look for fall as they can be paired with just about anything. These skirts are versatile enough to take you through the unpredictable weather changes of the season and work as well for the office as they do for a date night. This simple staple has been seen on the runways of Christian Dior, Victoria Beckham, and Valentino.
Velvet is the texture of the season and makes for a great option if you have any formal events to attend in the next couple of months. Designers like Jason Wu are favouring this fabric in rich jewel tones which highlights those warm and cozy fall-vibes. Try topping your usual base pieces with a jewel-toned velvet blazer to give a simple look a trendy edge.
What I love about this season's trends is that its easy to add small elements of them to an existing wardrobe. Pick up a vintage floral scarf and you can easily jazz up your existing look. Other elements of this season's trends, like mini skirts and chambray button downs, never really go completely out of style so you can feel confident investing in a carefully chosen new piece or two.
