summer travel essentials

This month I am eagerly anticipating my trip to Halifax and, even though I don't leave for two more weeks, I'm already thinking about what to pack.

Packing tends to stress me out. I always get anxious that I'm going to forget something important. Since I'm trying to avoid a repeat of last year's trip when I forgot my hairbrush and missed my plane, I thought I would dedicate this month's Eye-Catching post to a few travel essentials.

When I travel, I'm all about finding clothing pieces that are comfortable but stylish and that easily transition from day to night. This T-shirt Dress and Romper both fit the bill since they can easily be worn with sandals or sneakers during the day and dressed up with heels and accessories at night. Plus, I have a feeling that they'll back super well!

One thing I always forget to pack is a hat! It's so important to bring one when travelling in the summer if you plan on spending any time outdoors (which I obviously do.) This Fedora from Nordstrom will match just about anything and is a super great bargain.

I'm very much in need of a new makeup bag since the one I have is really too small for such a long trip. (I'll be in Halifax for nearly three weeks! I can pack light... but not that light) Anyway, I've been coveting this gorgeous Makeup Case by Anya Hindmarch for ages because I love the fact that it's wide and shallow so you can easily find all your products, and has a separate section for brushes. It's stupidly expensive though so if anyone knows of something similar for a better price let me know in the comments!

I've been meaning to try a BB cream for ages because I think it will be the perfect alternative to a full layer of foundation. I try and keep my makeup light in the summer, especially when I travel. When I'm in a new place, I'm usually too excited to start exploring to be bothered spending a lot of time getting ready in the morning. This seems perfect for travel because it moisturizes, primes, controls oil, evens skin tone, and protects with SPF 35 all in one step.

Another thing I always forget when I travel in the summer is some type of sweater or jacket. When the weather is so hot and humid at home in Toronto, it's easy to forget that other parts of the world can get cool at night all year round. Plus I always regret not having some type of extra layer on the plane! Even if I never wear an extra layer on the trip, it's worth it to have something warm for the flight. I love this trendy Wrap because it can easily be thrown over shorts and a t-shirt if the weather cools down but it's still open and breezy enough to prevent you from overheating.

Another thing I often don't bother with when traveling is straightening my hair, especially if I'm going to be in and out of the ocean every other day. When it's hot and humid and I'm looking to save time, some type of wave enhancing spray is all I need. I've heard really good things about this Oribe Apres Beach Wave and Shine Spray

I don't know about you, but when I travel I walk everywhere. Walking allows me to see so much more of the city than if I simply took a taxi from one tourist attraction to another. I can easily walk 20k in a day when I'm on a trip, so having a great bag like this Longchamp Backpack is essential so I don't get tired of carrying things.

Since walking is such a huge part of all my trips, packing a pair of stylish but comfortable shoes is an absolute must. I've relied on Keds for a long time, but the pair that took me all through Europe finally bit the dust. Next up are some new Converse Chuck Taylors

Whew! Who knew I had so much to say about all this stuff!

What are some of your summer travel essentials? Let me know in the comments!
