January often feels like a bit of a let-down after the holidays, but I've been lucky this month to travel to New York City, reunite with my school friends, and get a new dose of writing inspiration from some of our program's special guests. As usual, I've got a lot of new goals for a new year and I'm feeling pretty motivated this month to start 2017 on the right foot. Here's a glimpse of what I'm up to this month.
Reading: I'd put Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's and Other Stories on my reading list a few months ago and am only now finally getting around to it! I somehow neglected to buy it all those months ago so I picked up a copy at The Strand Bookstore while I was in New York City recently and started reading it over a glass of Crément in Soho. It was the perfect New York moment.
Watching: I just started watching Nashville on Netflix and I finally understand what all the fuss is about! I was pretty much hooked right from the first episode and I definitely recommend it if you, or anyone you know, is involved in the music industry in any way. I've also been watching the latest episodes of The Mindy Project while I'm at the gym. A light comedy like this keeps me motivated and distracts me when I'm working out so the time on the treadmill flies by.
Listening to: Last month I told you I'd been listening to a history podcast called Rex Factor, but since I got myself all caught up on that, I've had to find something new. I found another history podcast called Yesterday's News that also takes a really fun and enjoyable look at the past. Each week they discuss three events from his week in history and, like with Rex Factor, I've often found myself laughing out loud.
Working on: This semester is all about finessing my book proposal and sample chapters so I can start submitting my book out there in the real world. It's a scary thought to put my work out there after working on it privately for so long, but I'm very excited to finally be so close to accomplishing this very long term goal.
Dreaming of: My sunny family holiday! I'm very very lucky to be travelling twice this winter. Next month I'll be heading to Turks & Caicos with my parents and siblings for a family getaway. I can't wait to lie on the beach, soak up some much needed vitamin D, and swim in the ocean!
What are you up to this month?
