I was only 45 minutes into the Golden Globes last night when the first trends of 2016 became obvious. I've collected the top 5 here and offer you a few examples of each to inspire your upcoming spring wardrobe. Some looks I love, some I don't, and with others I simply can't seem to make up my mind. Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
Trend #1: Black
These gowns with wide plunging necklines all seem to be inspired by the same vintage poster. A classic Old Hollywood take on basic black gowns, these three looks are among my all-time favourites. I'm a sucker for elegant Old Hollywood after all...
Trend #2: Mustard
Perhaps inspired by the same poster, mustard was the break-out trend last night. I personally don't think I can pull off this colour with my complexion... In fact, I think most women would have a hard time wearing mustard so I'm not sure about the staying power of this particular colour trend.
Trend #3: Florals
I'm reminded immediately of Meryl Streep's character in The Devil Wears Prada who said sarcastically: "Florals? For spring? Ground breaking." But you don't often see an abundance of florals on the red carpet and I think these three looks put a fresh spin on an oft-recycled trend.
Trend #4: Serious Sparkles
We're not just talking about embellishments here, we're talking all-over glitter from head-to-toe!
Trend #5: Red. Red. Red.
Fire engine red! This colour was all over the place last night and I had a hard time narrowing down my favourite looks in this category. This women are inspiring me to put some bold colour in my wardrobe next to my piles of neutrals.
What were your favourite looks last night?
