I keep hearing great things about brunch at Mildred's Temple Kitchen in Liberty Village. It seems to show up on nearly every "Best Brunch" list in Toronto, so it's about time that I check it out for myself.
The decor is super sleek and modern; the entire restaurant feels brand new but the Liberty Village location has been open for years!
I loved the airy feel in the dining room and the open kitchen. I was also an instant fan of the murals throughout the restaurant, but I didn't understand why they were playing the audio from an airplane safety video in the bathroom instead of music...
I went for the Huevos Monty: black beans and cheddar cheese baked between two tortillas and topped with two sunny eggs, avocado crema, sour cream, and fresh salsa.
My brunch date ordered the homemade savoury tart filled with goat cheese, caramelized onions, and spinach, served with a side of mixed greens.
The food was good and definitely satisfying but I felt like it could have been a little better. Maybe my expectations were too high, but this brunch doesn't quite make it onto my personal "Best Brunch" list. I expected a little more depth of flavour from the ingredients: sharper cheese and better seasoning for example. I think I could have recreated something very similar at home in my own kitchen.
What do you think, are you one of the many fans of Mildred's Temple Kitchen? Are my expectations for brunch getting to be too high? And what's on your "Best Brunch in Toronto" list?
