Drake Trivia

When I need to wake up my brain and tear myself away from Netflix, I head to the Drake Hotel on a Wednesday night for Drake Trivia. What could be better than picking up some new knowledge over a bottle of wine?

Wednesdays aren't usually a particularly busy night in the restaurant industry but this event has the Drake Hotel Lounge packed by 8pm when the questions start flying.

The game itself is simple, but winning is hard! The trivia hosts fire off three rounds with little breaks in between so you'll still have plenty of time to re-fill your drinks and grab a snack. Each round has 10 regular trivia questions and 3 music questions where players have to identify a song clip. Rounds 1 & 3 are always general trivia and round 2 has a new theme each week. The questions cover everything from history, geography, pop culture, recent news, math, and more! The trick is to assemble a team with diverse members so you can take advantage of a wide variety of random knowledge. Teams can be up to four people, and the one that comes up with the best team name wins a bonus point.

Here are our quizmasters deliberating over the best team name. This week we were the Wine Time Trivia Team. (Picking a team name is definitely my biggest challenge of the night. I usually come up with something along the lines of "Ummm….")

Here's our scorecard after a couple rounds. The Drake never puts together easy trivia but this week was super hard! Never-the-less, I'm absolutely determined to win one day… The Grand Prize is an $80 gift card to the Drake. As much as I wouldn't mind winning a budget-friendly dinner or a few free rounds of drinks, I'm in it more for the bragging rights.

Win or lose, there's always wine!

Trivia Nights are picking up in popularity all over the city these days. It seems like I'm hearing about a new one every couple weeks, and it really it a great way to get out of the house in the middle of the week, catch up with friends, and give your mind some exercise.

What other game nights should I check out next? Let me know in the comments :)
