What's Up Toronto? : Halloween 2014

Halloween is just a week away, and if you don't already have plans, now's the time to seek out the city's most exciting events. If you're overwhelmed by all the possibilities, here are three events that I think are sure to guarantee a good time.

1. Cherry Cola's Rock N Rolla Cabaret Lounge Halloween Party (200 Bathurst St.)

If you're looking for a traditional Halloween party with a bit of everything and a hardcore soundtrack, Cherry Cola's is the place for you. The party will feature live music from punk quartet Vile Saints and garage-rock band The Blue Demonsburlesque and belly dancing performances by Fionna Flauntit, Esther De Ville, and Karen Juanita; a costume contest, and more!

$10 // 9:30pm

2. The Mercenaries at The Dakota Tavern (249 Ossington Ave.)

If you're looking to drink, dance, and party the night away, but want a slightly more relaxed vibe, then head to the Dakota Tavern where The Mercenaries will be playing a night of 1950s soul. This band will get the party going with classic hits by artists like Ray Charles, Little Richard, and Chuck Berry, but the Dakota won't over-do the Halloween theme if that isn't your style.

$7 // 9pm

3. Stanley Kubrick Fest at The TIFF Lightbox (350 King St W)

If Halloween for you is less about the parties and more about the spook-factor then spend the evening at the TIFF Lightbox where, on October 31st, they launch the first day of Stanley Kubrick: The Exhibition. The exhibit will showcase props, costumes, photos, letters, screenplays, and production materials from Kubrick's movie-making career. Visitors will also get the chance to see some of Kubrick's early work as a photojournalist and documentary filmmaker in the late 1940s. In addition, on Halloween evening, the Lightbox will screen Kubrick's The Shining. This screening includes the opportunity to hear from Kubrick's producer and brother-in-law Jan Harlan, who will introduce the film.

(If you can't make it on Halloween, the exhibit runs until January 25th, and other Kubrick films will be screened on select dates.)

$20 For Both Film & Exhibit // Exhibit Hours: 12pm-10pm; Film Screening: 6:30pm
