Cocktail Club: Cosmopolitan

cosmopolitan cocktail

Cosmopolitans were all the range around the turn of the millennium but they seem to have fallen out of Vogue since then. Ordering one at a restaurant nowadays feels oddly retro but it's about time this late-90s drink made a come-back.

Popularized by it's omnipresence in Sex and the City, Cosmopolitans disappeared around the same time the show ended. But there's a reason Carrie and her friends drank so many of them: they're absolutely delicious!

I have to say that I agree with Miranda when she asks at the end of the Sex and the City movie: "Why did we ever stop drinking these?"

To make your Cosmo shake the following ingredients together with ice:

  • 1.5 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz triple sec or cointreau
  • 1 oz cranberry juice
  • 1/2oz fresh lime juice (I never measure this but just use half a lime per drink)

This is a pretty fruity drink so if you like your cocktails a little stronger, add an extra splash of vodka. Strain in to a martini glass and garnish with orange, lime or lemon, whichever you prefer. Enjoy!
