How We Wore It - Summer Skirt

This month I'm very excited to be joining in the How We Wore It series with some very talented other bloggers. I've been reading posts in this series for ages, so I'm thrilled to be participating for the first time! (I might have had a mini fan-girl moment, but we'll breeze past that...)

The idea behind How We Wore It is as follows:

The lovely Deidre Emme chooses a photo from a fashion blog and we all have to re-create the look. Seems simple enough, but the catch is that we can only use items we already have in our closets. The idea is to take inspiration from the photo and get creative. It's more about being inspired by the colours, textures, and silhouettes than it is about recreating the look exactly.

I love this idea because it challenges us to experiment within our existing wardrobes and discover new outfits we didn't even know we could create! All without having to spend a single penny.

Without further ado, here is this month's outfit inspiration from Elevate Everyday:

I'm not going to lie, I was a little nervous to open my email and see the outfit picture. What if I had nothing in my closet that I could use? What if I failed miserably and looked like a total loser in front of so many of my blogging idols?

Luckily, this look is right up my alley! As soon as I saw the photo I knew exactly what pieces I would pull together for my own outfit. Here's my look:

I'm Canadian, so of course I already owned a Chambray top. I've never actually worn the so-called "Canadian Tuxedo" (that's denim from head-to-toe), but this shirt definitely gets worn a lot. Even though it's a wardrobe staple, I would never have thought to pair it with a skirt! I don't own anything pastel at all, so I was inspired by the silhouette in the original image more than the colour and texture.

I have to say I quite like this look, and I would never have thought to pair these pieces together if I hadn't been a part of this collaboration. The mix of casual chambray and a fancier full skirt make it a great option that can transition straight from day to night.

Make sure you check out how the others interpreted this look! I'm excited to go through them to see all the variations!
