I had just finished yesterday's blog post about all the little ways that life distracts me from my writing, when the biggest distraction of the year (so far) landed in my inbox.
The email was to inform us, in an annoyingly chipper tone, that a photographer would be coming to take pictures of our apartment in 24 hours. The email was from a realtor. Turns out our landlord is selling our condo and we will likely have to move. Too bad there is no way I can get this house photo-ready in 24 hours.
I love my apartment and I really really don't want to move. A little while ago I wrote about how this is the first house I've lived in since I moved to the city that actually felt like a real home. It's also the longest I've ever lived any place other than with my parents. It really feels like mine, and I love (almost) everything about it.
So I'm trying to see this change in a positive light, but it's very hard. In an effort to put a silver-lining on all this I thought I'd make my ultimate must-have list for my new dream home. Maybe I'll get lucky and end up somewhere even better!
i.e.: I will camp out and refuse to leave my current apartment and live on scraps of food sent up from the street via an intricate pulley system before I live anywhere without the following
- Above ground (no basements!!!)
- In my current neighbourhood
- Air conditioning
Things I have now that I really don't want to live without... but could technically live without.
i.e.: Evidence that I'm a spoiled-real-estate-brat
- Storage Locker
- Rooftop Patio
- Hot Tub
Things I don't have now that I would like in a new place
i.e.: Trying to turn this move into a good thing
- Extra bedroom or den
- Walls that aren't 90% glass
My must-have list seems pretty reasonable, but I think it's going to be hard to find a new place that has as many perks as my current home...
If anyone hears of any dream homes up for rent please drop me a note in the comments!
